Developing breeding sustainably

At a recent meeting with Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien assessed that breeding in Khanh Hoa has changed positively. However, the scale is still quite small and the slaughter of livestock and poultry needs more attention.

According to Le Tan Ban - Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, since the beginning of the year, the breeding in the province has been quite stable. Currently, the province has about 64,000 cattle, 350,000 pigs, and 2.58 million poultries. This scale meets the consumption demand in the province and partly supplies outside the province.

Remarkably, in recent years, the form of husbandry has changed in a very positive direction. The province currently has 410 cattle and poultry farms, including 31 large-scale ones, 250 medium-scale ones and 129 small-scale ones.

In addition to the transformation of breeding, the development and improvement of breeders in Khanh Hoa is also one of the bright spots highly appreciated by the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Annually, over 350,000 commercial breeders are supplied to the market.

Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said that the current breeding scale basically meets the needs of the the population of 1.4 million people in Khanh Hoa. However, in the coming time, Khanh Hoa is oriented to develop into a city directly under the Central Government with a population of more than 2 million people; therefore, meeting the food needs of this population, including the breeding expansion is an issue to be thought right now. Breeding in Khanh Hoa has undergone a drastic shift from household to farm scale. In the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will direct Khanh Hoa to focus on implementing the province's breeding strategy based on the Prime Minister's Decision 1520 approving the breeding development strategy for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2045 to be proactive in providing food and foodstuff for the people.

At the meeting, Dinh Van Thieu - Vice chairman of the provincial People's Committee received the opinions and suggestions of the delegation in the breeding development; determined to invest in concentrated cattle and poultry slaughtering areas in the coming time to both ensure food safety and hygiene and ensure disease prevention and control...
