The project's primary goal is to enhance the offshore aquaculture in Khanh Hoa province by improving productivity, adding value to the sector, and raising the income of local fish farmers and other stakeholders.

Hanoi (VNA) - A high-tech offshore aquaculture pilot project has been launched in the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.

Approved under Prime Minister’s Decision No. 231/QD-TTg on January 24, the project's primary goal is to enhance the offshore aquaculture in Khanh Hoa province by improving productivity, adding value to the sector, and raising the income of local fish farmers and other stakeholders. This will be achieved through job creation, better socio-economic conditions, and the promotion of high-standard seafood exports, thus ensuring food safety, meeting the demand for both domestic and international markets.

Running until 2029, the pilot project has specific targets for two designated zones. In 3 nautical miles, it will cover 240 hectares, producing more than 3,600 tonnes of seafood, and in between 3 and 6 nautical miles, it will span 200 hectares with a target output of over 5,100 tonnes.

The initiative will develop high-tech breeding methods, advance farming technology, and implement environmental monitoring systems to control disease and adapt to climate change.

Research will focus on breeding stock tailored to the province’s aquaculture needs, with careful management of species reliant on natural resources, such as lobster, to ensure sustainable practices and protect marine resources.

The project will also incorporate cutting-edge technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) for monitoring livestock and security, solar power, automated feeding systems, environmental monitoring, and new materials to enhance aquaculture operations while protecting the environment./.
