In recent years, realizing that the native black pig breed is popular with many people, Mr. Sua, a farmer in Pang De village, Ban Mu commune (Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province) registered with the commune government to receive support in raising this specialty pig breed on a commercial scale.

As a mountainous district with nearly 80% of Mong people living there, in recent years, Tram Tau (Yen Bai province) has effectively applied mechanisms and policies to encourage livestock development, especially Resolution No. 69 and Resolution No. 05 of the Provincial People's Council on supporting the development of agricultural, forestry and fishery production in Yen Bai province, period 2021 - 2025, helping people promote the economic value of local specialty agricultural products, which are very popular in the market.

Mr. Phang A Sua's family in Pang De village, Ban Mu commune used to raise pigs on a small scale to serve their family and sell a few pigs to cover daily expenses, without any savings.

In recent years, realizing that the native black pig breed is popular with many people, Mr. Sua registered with the commune government to receive support for raising this breed of pig on a commercial scale.

In early 2024, with support of 15 million VND under Resolution 69 of the Provincial People's Council, along with the accumulated capital, his family invested in expanding the barn and buying more breeding pigs. To date, Mr. Sua has 3 sows and nearly 30 pigs, which are a local specialty black pig breed.

Mr. Sua shared: "Basically, the family still maintains the traditional farming methods of the Mong people and also actively participates in training courses, learning more scientific pig farming techniques to suit commercial farming.

The pigs' food is only corn flour, bananas and cassava, so when they reach a certain weight, there are customers who buy them right at the pigsty with the price of live pigs being 150,000 VND/kg, and pork from 80,000 - 90,000 VND/kg, bringing in an income of nearly 70 million VND for the family each year. From the effectiveness of raising specialty pigs, in the coming time, the family will continue to develop on a scale of 50 pigs or more.

Previously, Ms. Thao Thi Xe's family in Sang Pao village only raised 1 or 2 buffaloes and cows and took care of them in the traditional way of grazing, with little food source, mainly weeds and forest leaves.

As a result, the cattle were stunted and the breed was weak. Realizing that the combination of raising and confining cattle had significantly improved the quality of the herd, Ms. Xe's family registered to develop a cattle and buffalo raising model with a scale of over 10 cattle according to Resolution 69 of the Provincial People's Council and received 30 million VND in support. This support helped her family invest in barns and expand livestock farming.

Ms. Xe said: "When we learned about the support policy under Resolution 69 of the Provincial People's Council, our family registered to participate and boldly invested in expanding the area of ​​barns and increasing the number to achieve long-term economic efficiency."

In order for people to see the benefits of the province's support mechanisms and policies, from the beginning of the year, Xa Ho commune has visited each household, organized village meetings to propagate and mobilize as well as evaluate households that are eligible for support under Resolution 69. In 2024, there are 10 models supported in the commune, including 7 models of households and 3 models of cooperatives.

Mr. Cho A Sinh - Vice Chairman of Xa Ho Commune People's Committee (Tram Tau District, Yen Bai Province) informed: "The lives of Xa Ho people mainly depend on agricultural production, so the State's support policies are always an important condition in both material and spiritual terms to encourage people to boldly invest in production. Resolution 69 has many different specific levels, so it is suitable for the conditions of many households, helping people to partly overcome difficulties in capital to invest in production development, livestock farming, and create stable livelihoods".

To effectively implement Resolution 69, Tram Tau district has focused on directing specialized agencies to coordinate with unions and People's Committees of communes and towns to organize implementation.

Based on the registration needs and wishes for support in production development, the communes met with the people, surveyed household conditions and guided them in writing registration applications, committing to implementing support models suitable to the actual conditions of each household and each locality.

In 2024, Tram Tau district has 86 livestock and poultry farms supported with a total budget of over 1.7 billion VND. Of these, there are 29 buffalo and cow farms with a scale of 10 or more; 44 pig farms with a scale of 3 sows and 20 or more pigs; 2 specialty poultry farms with 300 or more black chickens; 1 pig farm with a scale of 5 sows and 50 pigs; 2 goat farms with a scale of 30 or more pigs and 8 buffalo and cow farming cooperatives with a scale of 20 or more pigs.

The District Agricultural Development and Support Service Center and its member sectors have been actively accepting and disbursing support funds to households and facilities in accordance with regulations.

Mr. Hang A Thao - Director of the Center for Agricultural Support and Development Services of Tram Tau district said: "In 2024, the implementation of Resolution 69 and 05 of the Provincial People's Council and the District People's Committee has assigned the Center to directly take charge and implement. Through the implementation process, it has been shown that people have enthusiastically participated and promoted the economic value of local specialty agricultural products, especially the native black pig breed and black chicken breed that people have raised for many years, which are very popular in the market. This is a sustainable direction in agricultural development in Tram Tau district".

The effective application of mechanisms and policies in livestock farming has contributed to changing the small-scale production methods of the people, improving the quality of livestock and poultry, introducing many new breeds into production, creating momentum for the people of Tram Tau highlands to have more opportunities to develop a sustainable economy, create high-quality products, attract and expand the consumer market.
