Organised by the HCM City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC), the annual festival kicked off on Thursday evening (September 20) at the Sports Centre at No 215C Lý Thường Kiệt Street in District 11.

During the festival, visitors and ornamental fish enthusiasts will have a chance to learn more about different species of ornamental fish.

The event is also a chance for businesses and breeders to exchange experiences and expand linkages in production, as well as promote the market for ornamental fish.

HCM City has about 21 establishments and companies that export ornamental fish to 43 countries in the EU, Asia, the US and South Africa.

In the first nine months of the year, the city exported 15.2 million ornamental fish worth US$17.3 million, up 14 per cent in volume and 14.5 per cent in export value against the same period last year, according to the city’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

It targets production of 180 million ornamental fish this year. Of the amount, 20-21 million ornamental fish would be exported, earning $20-23 million in export value.
